Education

I graduated from the Cambridge School of Weston, class of 2014, with a senior year GPA of 3.85. My favorite subject was History - I managed to take 8 classes senior year! I am currently taking a gap year, but enrolled at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs with a tentative International Affairs major. I am a recipient of their Presidential Academics scholarship.

Experience

I've sat for the SAT (I&II) more than 10 times in the past two years, and the ACT 5 times. I've attained a 740 on SAT Reading, 35 in ACT English, and 36 in ACT Reading. I also achieved a 740 on the SAT Literature Subject Test, as well as a 740 and 710 on the Spanish with Listening and French subject tests, respectively. After taking "Neurology of Teaching and Learning," I learned to identify the multiple ways a subject could be presented, which both enhanced my appreciation of complex ideas and helped me form a holistic approach to teaching. When I create teaching plans, I favor a dialogue approach - talking about the subject as an idea, rather than a strictly regimented set of rules to slap onto flash cards. This allows a student to create a personal bond with the idea, a way of connecting with the theme that perhaps doesn't take a traditional route, or even one that can be initially articulated - but one that works for them. I'm quite a fan of the uncommon, and I'm certainly not afraid to get my hands dirty wrangling with odd ways of formulating ideas, so teaching and collaborative generation of ideas are a natural fit for me. In the past, I've volunteered at a non-profit multi-service legal agency for the homeless, undocumented, and mentally/physically ill performing bilingual (Spanish/English) client intakes and assisting with grant writing and donor outreach. I've also worked with an organization aiding unaccompanied and undocumented minors seeking refugee or immigrant status, where I researched Spanish and English sources on the countries and conflicts that clients escaped from.

Hobbies

Over the past year, I've been teaching myself French, and now it's not rare to find me diving into Le Monde - in fact, I've been told it's rare to find me without my nose in any reading material at all. When this does happen, however, I can be found behind the lens of my trusty Pentax, or dishing out realistically optimistic advice. I'm an avid fan of being cozy, half-drunk mugs of coffee, running, and yoga.
